Vehicle Key Fob Design - A Follow-Up
I have one of these for my Nissan, and actually there is one major flaw: no key ring hole on the electronic portion of the fob. The key hidden inside the fob is connected to the existing key hole, and thus the enitire ring comes off when you remove the key via a small switch. This is particulary important when handing one’s keys off to a NYC parking attendant, a spouse, or anyone for that matter. Is the driver supposed to hand over an entire set of keys (which in itself is not a comfortable choice in the parking valet example) and hold onto a small, rounded, easily-lost piece of plastic? Or give the fob alone, with nothing to hold it to a tag or the requiste peg board?Earlier this year I posted about the incredibly flawed design of the Lexus key fob. Fortunately, I stumbled upon the antithesis. Last week I rented a Nissan Altima, and this is its key fob:
Lock, un-lock (with little bumps to feel for in the dark), trunk (hold to open), and panic. Simple, straightforward, no ambiguity.
