Most are free, but each of these is worth paying for.
I’m often asked for recommendations for iPad/iPhone apps, so here’s my list. Please, comment and share yours.
First, you’ll wonder how you ever lived without Instapaper,* Wikipanion, Flipboard, Paper Calc, Handoff, Air Display, Dictionary, Flixster & IMDb.
Really.
The same goes for Tweetbot, CraigsPro+, Amazon, Netflix, HBO Go, and the Target & Home Depot apps if like me you use those webservices/stores.
Similarly, get Railtime if you commute by train like I do. It’s worth the dollar or two cost, no matter how many free alternatives you find.
For great games, Words With Friends, Tiki Totems (all versions), Blueprint3D, Chess Free, Flood It!, Unblock Me, Flow, Cross Your Fingers, Where’s My Water, Cut The Rope, Angry Birds and Snood are all so addictive I’m thinking of deleting them. (And yes, there are many more on my iPad even though I’m not a gamer.)
Finally, whether or not you ever let your family use your iPad or iPhone (and I strongly recommend against it — it’s always tough to get it back!) having more than one browser is incredibly useful because Safari currently allows only nine open tabs at a time. I turn to Atomic Web Browser more than any other alternate, and I love Tech Junkie to keep up with a handful of particular sites. Same reasoning goes for a 2nd email app like Gmail so you can keep other people’s accounts separate.
This is by no means an exhaustive list of great apps — I keep hundreds more on my iDevices and I’m sure you do as well.
So again, please share your faves.
